Notes on Grief
by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Sleeve design by Okiki Akinfe
This month, Okiki Akinfe has chosen Notes on Grief by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie as the book she would like to share for Sendb00ks, July 2025.
Okiki Akinfe (b. 1999) is a British-Nigerian painter based in London. She completed her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2023 and her BA at the Slade School of Fine Art in 2022. Her work explores personal and cultural memory, often creating alternative archives for first-generation Nigerian-British experiences.
"Instructions for a Death to Landscape, (the text Okiki wrote for her graduate show, which we will print within the sleeve) was written in my final year of university, after reflecting on the last couple of years of my life dealing with a pandemic, Black Lives Matter protests and personal loss. I started reading Notes on Grief by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie that very same year. Despite being a relatively short read, it has taken me over three years to fully complete. I’ve come across books that manage to change my perspective on certain things, but it is very rare that I find a book that is able to cause change due to its ability to completely embody a grieving process. Gently creating space for the reader to embrace the process of loss."
This July, we’re creating a fold-out poster that tells the story behind Okiki’s selection, included with each book.
Also on the way: a podcast, a video, and more.
