As this dramatic year draws to a close, we want to wind down towards Christmas with you and an incredible book chosen by French photographer Juliette Abitbol, a long time friend of Sendb00ks and a great reader.
When we asked Juliette to collaborate, she suggested Carson McCullers southern gothic masterpiece The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, written when McCullers was just 18. We have since devoured the book and have fallen in love with its characters from their small town in The Deep South in the 1930s, the loneliness they all struggle with and their search for love. This Christmas more than ever we understand many of you will be separated from your loved ones or experiencing the festive period in circumstances far from what you imagined. Carson McCullers was no stranger to isolation and the vulnerability of her characters and their resilience and strength portrayed in this book gave us a much needed reminder of the importance of connection. Carson explores a host of misfits and outcasts as they attempt to come to terms with their world and grapple with how to become useful members of society by looking for, and struggling to find, human love wherever they can get it.
