This November we are thrilled to announce we will be collaborating with French artist Ines Di Folco. notredamedenadja.com
I found out about Ines while visiting a group show in Paris, her beautiful painting covered a large wall in the space. I contacted her to find out if she would like to collaborate with Sendb00ks and she told me that she had been following the account for a few years already. We decided to send Sula by Toni Morrison, one of our favorite books.
Ines and I met multiple times, in her district of Jordain in the 20eme and later at The Grande Mosque in the 5eme. We sat discussed books and she inspired me with her views on art, childhood and motherhood. She told me:
She is currently painting the scene where the two inseparable friends Sula and Nel swing a neighborhood boy Chicken Little around by his hands. Sula loses her grip and the boy falls and drowns. They don’t tell anybody. It is the beginning of guilt for Sula but for Nel, who shuns the responsibility it is a feeling of pride and lightness. Its one of the most powerful scenes I have ever read. From Ines’ painting we will make a sleeve for the book and distribute it to you. We will write the blurb together about Ines’ experiences. I'm not sure the book makes me smile, but the daily conversations I have been having with Ines do.
